911 services restored for Verizon Wireless users

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- People in Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, Accomack County, and Northampton County who use Verizon Wireless cell phone service experienced problems calling 9-1-1 on Wednesday night. 

Dispatchers were able to hear the caller clearly, but the caller hears what sounds like a fax machine. 

By late Wednesday night, services were restored.

During the outage, Verizon users in those areas could use these numbers:

  • Virginia Beach - (757) 385-5000
  • City of Williamsburg - (757) 220-2331
  • Accomack or Northampton County - (757) 787-0911, (757) 442-0911, (757) 824-0911

Users also may send a text to 9-1-1 if there is an emergency. 

This outage only affected Verizon Wireless users. People using other phone providers can use 9-1-1 if there is an emergency.
