VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Police say the rape charge against a Virginia Beach Uber driver has been dropped.
Sewanou Yoro was charged with rape, abduction and aggravated sexual battery earlier this year. Officials say issues were brought to light while re-interviewing witnesses that called into question the credibility of the evidence in the case.
Yoro was charged in March after a woman he picked up in Virginia Beach alleged he attacked her.
Yoro's lawyer told The Virginian-Pilot that prosecutors agreed to the dismissal after the defense presented statements from another Uber driver who said he'd been involved in a "similar scenario" with the 19-year-old woman.
The charge was dismissed with prejudice, meaning that prosecutors are barred from reinstating the charges at a later date.
