C.H.K.D gets a big award from Hyundai.

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- The fight against pediatric cancer has never been easy but today, doctors at the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) received a helping hand.

Hyundai Hope on Wheels presented CHKD and with a $50,000 grant to support the work of pediatric cancer research and programs.

“Our goal at Hope on Wheels is to provide these doctors with the grant funds they need to perform their life saving work,” said Scott Fink, Chairman of the Hyundai Hope on Wheels program.

CHKD Pediatric Oncologist Eric Lowe was honored at the ceremony for his efforts on behalf of children fighting cancer. Lowe told 13NewsNow that funding for research is critical.

“At the end of the day, cancer research is so important and the field is exploding,” said Lowe. “Look at any newspaper, magazine across the board, we’re making strides every day but all of that costs money.”

Lowe said his motivation to find a cure is simple.

“I love seeing kids being kids and that’s really rewarding to know that we’re trying to give them their childhood back," he explained.
