City leaders vote to accept a grant for police body cameras in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Police officers in Virginia Beach are one step closer to having body cameras.

City leaders recently voted to accept a $300,000 federal grant for the new equipment.

Virginia Beach will match the money they receive from the grant to get the cameras they had hoped to get last June.

Currently, the Virginia Beach Police Department is the only one without body cameras in Hampton Roads.

There is no word on when the cameras will be purchased or when officers will start using them.
