Community supports family after missing boy pulled from York River

Crews recovered the body of a 13-year-old swimmer who went missing Friday afternoon.

GLOUCESTER POINT, Va. (WVEC) -- Crews recovered the body of a 13-year-old swimmer who went missing Friday afternoon.

Lt. Drew Llewellen of Abingdon Fire and Rescue said they pulled the boy's body from the York River around 7 a.m. Sunday about a half-mile from the Coleman Bridge.

Family members told 13News Now that Chandler "Chad" Shetterly died in the water.

Many people offered their help in searching for Shetterly. Some of those people planned to gather Monday at Gloucester Point Beach to show their support for the Shetterly family and to light candles in tribute to the teenager.

If you would like to help the family, you can donate through their church's website or through a Gofundme page set up for the Shetterlys.
