JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WVEC) – There's some pushback about the potential expansion of an existing continuing care retirement community within Williamsburg.
Williamsburg Landing wants to add on up to 135 independent living facility units to their property.
The property they're eyeing, 20 Marclay Road, sits next to the Williamsburg Jamestown Airport.
The Virginia Department of Aviation had concerns from the potential for noise complaints, to the height of the new development.
In June, The Federal Aviation Administration determined the development would not exceed obstruction standards and would not be a hazard to air navigation.
James City County’s planning commission will hear the proposal on Wednesday. Rezoning, a special use permit and a height is needed to move forward.
Staff recommends that the Planning Commission recommend denial of the proposed rezoning and SUP.
