Family files $40M suit against jail, others in inmate's death

The family of Henry Stewart filed a $40 million lawsuit related to his death at Hampton Roads Regional Jail.

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- The family of an inmate who died in the Hampton Roads Regional Jail in 2016 is asking for more than $40 million in a federal lawsuit filed Monday.

Attorney Mark Krudys filed the suit on behalf of Joe Austin and Michelle Wilson, co-administrators of the estate of Henry Clay Stewart.

Stewart, 60, died two days after he asked for emergency medical help at Hampton Roads Regional Jail.

Besides naming the jail authority as a defendant, the lawsuit names individuals at the jail as well as Correct Care Solutions.

Austin and Wilson are demanding a jury trial.
