Keeping your pets safe from the sun

Now is the time to make sure your four-legged friends are also protected from the sun.

(WVEC)-- Here's a warning for pet owners as the extreme heat settles in.

Did you know your four-legged friends also need protection from the sun?

Animals with light-colored noses, or short-hair are in most in need. Veterinarians at the University of Minnesota also say the groin, inside legs and belly also need sunscreen.

Their research shows UV light can bounce off of concrete surfaces and affect the skin.

But, a 'Rashie' can stop that from happening. It offers more than 50+ SPF protection for Fido, or any other pet that may be exposed to the sun.

"It's supposed to fit, but fit loosely," Nadine Moravec says. She sells them at Care-A-Lot Pet Supply. "You want them to breath, and it is breathable."

Moravec says the Rashie comes in all different sizes, fitting dogs of all sizes.

Make sure to keep your pets happy and healthy in this extreme heat.
