Man arrested after gunfire heard in Newport News community

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Gunshots heard in one Newport News community Tuesday landed one man in jail facing several charges.

Police responded to Beech Lake Park after receiving a call about gunfire in that area.

They found David Hoover, 21, who was subsequently charged with shooting in public, burglary, grand larceny and reckless handling of a firearm. 

On May 31, Hoover was arrested for arson of a vacant residence on Darrington Court. 

Police responded to that area to find heavy smoke coming from the home that afternoon. Investigators were led to the arrest of Hoover in the 500 block of J. Clyde Morris Blvd.
