Man pleads guilty in theft of Trooper Dermyer donation jar

YORK COUNTY, Va. (WVEC) -- A man charged in the theft of a donation jar meant for the family of fallen Virginia State Trooper Chad Dermyer pleaded guilty in court Wednesday.

The incident took place April 19 when Tyree Burrell took the jar from a 7-Eleven located in the Edgehill section of York County, according to the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office.The jar reportedly had $500 in it.

Burrell was served a warrant for larceny and arrested on April 23.

According to online court records and the General District Court clerk's office, Burrell pleaded guilty to petty larceny Wednesday, Nov. 8. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail with 75 suspended, a two-year unsupervised probation, and must pay court costs.

Burrell was also found guilty of possession of marijuana and was sentenced to 30 days in jail with all days suspended. In addition, his driver's license was suspended for six months.
