Manufacturing company may tee off at old Owl's Creek Golf Course

A new manufacturing company may call the Old Owl's Creek Golf Course in Virginia Beach home

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) - A new manufacturing company may call the Old Owl's Creek Golf Course home.

First, the planning commission will have to recommend the land be re-zoned.

The old course sits off South Birdneck Road, right across from Owl's Creek Lane.

"I just think it shouldn't go there. Period. It shouldn't be there period,” said community member Donnette Felton.

Neighbors aren’t too fond of the idea of a Manufacturing Facility calling the free space home.

According to the city's staff reports released on Thursday, the facility will be about 500,000 square feet and provide more than 1,000 jobs with an average salary of $70,000 dollars.

“I think there could be other spots in this town for it, maybe not in my backyard," Dave Winner said.

If approved, the facility will produce electromechanical batteries and military components and would eventually stay open 24 hours a day. The city also says no chemical manufacturing, petroleum refining or rubber or plastic product manufacturing will take place on the site.

The planning commission will make a recommendation to rezone the property for the possible new facility on November 8th.

Community members say that's when they plan to make their voices heard.
