Six people displaced following condominium fire in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- Six people have been displaced following a fire Thursday morning at Kings Point at Western Branch condominiums in Chesapeake.

Captain Scott Saunders with the Chesapeake Fire Department says firefighters were first called to the fire in the 2400 block of Leytonstone Drive at 2:05 a.m. Arriving eight minutes later, they found smoke coming from a two-story condominium.

Firefighters contained the fire to the kitchen area of one condominium unit, however, smoke damage was sustained throughout the rest of the home.

The fire was under control at 3:05 a.m. and appeared to be related to unattended cooking, firefighters say.

One adult that occupied the home where the fire originated was displaced, along with a family of five in an adjoining condominium that sustained serious water damage.

No injuries were reported. All six displaced residents have made other housing arrangements.
