Hampton Police issue summons to Black Lives Matter 757 organizer

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Several unity marches across Hampton Roads ended peacefully on Monday night. But a video on Facebook shows march organizer and Black Lives Matter 757 leader, JaPharii Jones, in a heated exchange with Hampton police.

The group claimed on Facebook that Jones was arrested, however, Jones could be later heard saying he had been cited for disrupting vehicles on a roadway.

In a statement, Hampton Police said protesters were cooperative with officers, and that Jones was the only person to be cited for "Obstruction of Free Passage of Others."

Across the water in Portsmouth, police shut down several streets in Olde Towne as the Coalition of Black Americans marched peacefully, despite at least one heated conversation.

Organizers say they hope to continue conversations about their communities beyond this march.
