Hampton shooting leaves man dead, gunman on the run

Hampton shooting claims man's life

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Police have identified a man who was found shot inside the LaSalle Landing apartments late Monday night.

Police tell us the shooting happened just before midnight. When officers arrived, they found 28-year-old Terrence Donald Lowther shot inside the apartment complex.

He was pronounced dead at the scene after officers found him suffering from a single gunshot wound.

Neighbors who live in the complex say police were knocking on doors early Tuesday morning.

"There was a lot of police in the parking lot, then they were knocking on everyone’s door and tried to find out what was going on,” explained neighbor Tommy Bailey.

Bailey said he told police what he heard.

“I heard some fighting, like thumbing and bumping against the wall," Bailey said.

Bailey said he knows it's not the safest area, but he says the complex just put cameras up to make it safer.

He said they went up, "about three weeks ago, because there are a lot of people in the parking lot that didn't belong out here."
