Motorcycle rider dies after Hampton accident

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Police said Tyree M. Freeland, the 22-year-old Hampton man critically injured after his motorcycle crashed into the back of an SUV earlier this week has died as a result of his injuries.

On Wednesday around 9 p.m., police were notified to a crash in the area of the 2100 block of Cunningham Drive. Upon arrival, police found Freeland suffering from critical injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed that an SUV was traveling eastbound on Cunningham Drive and was attempting to make a left turn into a parking lot of the Coliseum Crossing Shopping Center. 

As the Dodge SUV was turning, Freeland's 2005 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle struck the back right passenger side of the SUV.

The crash is still under investigation.

No other injuries were reported.
