HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- A death investigation is underway in Hampton after a man was found dead in standing water left by Hurricane Matthew, police say.
Officers were called to the first block of Sherry Dell Drive shortly after 12 a.m. Sunday for an unresponsive male who appeared to have drowned, according to Hampton Police.
Police and fire units arrived to find that the male had gone outside of his home to check for damage from the storm and was found unresponsive in the standing water a short time later. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police say the death appears to be storm related, however the incident remains under investigation and the cause of death is unknown.
