Police: Man tries to rob acquaintance at gunpoint, forces him into car

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Police arrested a man whom they say tried to rob someone he knew, abducting that person at gunpoint.

Emergency dispatchers received a call about an incident outside the Red Roof Inn on Coliseum Drive at 5:51 a.m. Monday.

Officers got there and made contact with a 36-year-old who said he had been robbed. He described the person whom he said robbed him.

Officers found that person, 22-year-old Erick Allen Osby, who lives in the 600 block of Lee Street.

Police determined the two men knew each other. Officers said Osby pulled a gun on the 36-year-old, demanded money from him, then forced the 36-year-old into Osby's car.

Osby then drove the man to the 36-year-old's home to get money. Osby supposedly drove him back to the Red Roof Inn. At that point, a witness called police.

Officers charged Osby with Attempted Robbery, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, and two counts of Abduction.

Osby was in custody at the Hampton City Jail late Monday.
