Police: Second Hampton shooting was self-inflicted

Two shootings within hours of each other

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Police say the second shooting reported in Hampton on Wednesday was determined to be self-inflicted.

The shooting happened in the parking lot of the Relax Inn in the 2700 block of W. Mercury Blvd. just before 5 p.m. Arriving officers found a man lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.

He was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He is currently in stable condition.

While investigators have determined the individual had shot himself, the circumstances behind it are still under investigation.

Anyone with information that will assist police is encouraged to contact the Hampton Police Division at 757-727-6111 or the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. Tipsters can also send an anonymous tip via text message to the Crime Line by texting "HamptonPDTIPS plus your tip" to 2744637 (CRIMES). Crime Line callers remain anonymous and never appear in court. If a Crime Line results in an arrest, the caller is eligible for a reward up to $1000.
