HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- For the second time in less than a day, police in Hampton are investigating a homicide in their city.

Police say they were called out to the 400 block of Catalpa Avenue shortly before 11:30 a.m. Friday, where they found a man lying in the alleyway suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No suspect information is available at this time.

Police are asking for the public's help for any information involving Friday's shooting.  If you have any information, call Hampton Police at 757-727-6111 or the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. All callers will remain anonymous and if the information that is provided leads to the arrest of an individual than the caller may be eligible to receive an award of up to $1,000.

It is the third homicide for the city of Hampton in 2017, but the second in less than 24 hours.  On Thursday night, 27-year-old Travis Wardrick was shot and killed in the 1100 block of Quash Street.

Police say a 17-year-old has been arrested in connection to that case, and that the suspect and victim had been involved in an altercation just prior to the shooting.
