HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- A Virginia State Trooper and three other people were injured Thursday in a four-vehicle accident on the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel.
Sergeant Michelle Anaya with Virginia State Police says the accident happened on I-64, west of 15th View in Hampton.
The incident began around 12:52 p.m. when a state trooper conducted a traffic stop on a person wanted in Virginia Beach. Assistance was requested and with lights and sirens, Trooper J. Hagwood arrived on the scene and stopped on the right shoulder in front of the traffic stop.
While stopped, traffic began to slow down. The driver of a 2006 Chrysler 300, traveling in the left lane, hit the car in front of it, a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. The Chrysler then swerved and hit a 1997 Acura 300. The Acura was then pushed into the back of the trooper's patrol car.
The Chrysler was occupied by a driver and passenger, who both suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Acura also suffered minor injuries. All three individuals were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Trooper Hagwood sustained minor injuries and is currently being treated.
State police say the driver of the Chrysler 300 is being charged with reckless driving and driving while suspended, with other charges are pending.
