Suspect now wanted for second shooting in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Police are investigating a shooting that happened near a Walmart in Hampton on Wednesday afternoon. 

The shooting happened in the 1900 block of Cunningham Drive, shortly before 5 p.m. Arriving officers found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds outside the Murphy USA gas station. He was taken to the hospital, where he is in critical condition.

Police say the suspect, 20-year-old Paris Javon Cooper of Hampton, is wanted for one count of maiming and one count of use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

Investigators say Cooper and the victim knew each other, but it is not clear what the motive of the shooting was at this time.

Cooper is also a suspect in another shooting and robbery that happened on October 29 in the first block of Derby Drive. 

Cooper is considered armed and dangerous. 

Anyone with information that will assist police is encouraged to contact the Hampton Police Division at 727-6111 or the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.  Tipsters can also send an anonymous tip via text message to the Crime Line by texting "HAMPTONPDTIPS plus your tip" to 274637 (CRIMES).  Crime Line callers remain anonymous and never appear in court.  If a Crime Line call results in an arrest, the caller is eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
