Arrest made following crash with moped in Newport News

Newport News police officers charged the driver of a car with DUI after the car hit a man who was on a moped.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) --  A Newport News man is facing charges following a crash involving a moped sent another man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The collision happened shortly before 10:35 p.m. Thursday on the Bland Boulevard Overpass, between Jefferson Avenue and Warwick Boulevard.  Investigators say a 2010 Toyota Camry driven by 25-year-old Emilio Riveria Soto hit a moped driven by a 20-year-old man.

The moped rider was flown by Nightingale to a hospital with serious injuries.

Soto is charged with DWI: 1st Offense and Assault: Maiming Another While DWI. Soto could face additional charges, based on the moped rider's injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
