Arrest made in deadly Newport News shooting

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Newport News police have arrested a man in connection with a deadly shooting that took place on Perinth Lane on Tuesday.

Police say, on Nov. 15, officers arrived on the scene to find 23-year-old Kashawn Cummings had been shot and killed.

On Thursday, Nov. 17, Newport News police reported 24-year-old Erick Lamont Jones, Jr., of Newport News had been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with Cummings' death.

Jones is in the custody of the Newport News City Jail.
