Body found in small pond behind Newport News apartments

13News Now Niko Clemmons has the story

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Newport News Police say the body of a man has been recovered from a pond behind an apartment complex.

Officials are still on scene in the 600 block of Cobblestone Circle. Officials have taped off a retention pond by the Villages of Stoney Run apartment complex.

The body was spotted by a woman walking her dog around 9:44 a.m.

Security at the apartment complex is blocking all entrances right now. So if you have to get in, you may not be able to unless you live here.

This is still an early investigation, so we're working to learn more details about what happened, the identity of the person found, and how that person ended up in the water.
