NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- The Newport News Police Department will be collecting unwanted prescription drugs this weekend.
The department is teaming up with the Drug Enforcement Agency in a nationwide initiative to prevent increased pill abuse and theft.
On Saturday, Oct. 22, those who would like to can drop off potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted drugs for disposal.
Three collection points will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.:
Newport News Police Headquarters- 9710 Jefferson Ave.
- Newport News Police Department North Precinct- 368 DeShazor Drive
- Newport News Police Department South Precinct- 3303 Jefferson Ave.
Officials say the service is free and anonymous.
