Newport News police arrest man accused of shooting outside hotel

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Investigators have arrested a man who they say is connected to a shooting outside of a hotel.

Officers were called out to a hotel located on the 6100 block of Jefferson Avenue just after 2 a.m. on January 5th. 

When they arrived, they saw several bullet casings along the entrance of the hotel. Investigators also found a gun underneath a black SUV.

Surveillance video from the business allegedly showed a man shooting at an another person in a car who was also exchanging gunfire. 

There were no injuries reported, but damage was reported to a car in the parking lot, as well as the hotel. 

Investigators were able to track down the suspect in the case, identifying him as 36 year-old Michael Lassiter. 

Lassiter is facing charges for shooting a firearm in a public place, damage property, possession of a firearm by felon and reckless handling of a firearm.
