NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Authorities say a suspect in a Newport News shooting is in custody, hours after barricading inside a home.
Newport News police say a call came in reporting a man had been shot at a home on Hanover Way at 7:32 a.m.
The victim, a 31-year-old Newport News man, was reportedly shot in the upper groin area. Medics transported the man to the hospital. Officials say the victim's injuries are not considered life-threatening. He is said to be in stable condition.
Tactical teams were called out and a standoff ensued.

Officials say the suspect, later identified as 35-year-old Darrell Chaney, was taken into custody shortly after 10 a.m., with no additional injuries reported.
Chaney has prior charges of damage property, failure to appear in court in Newport News, and failure to appear in court in Virginia Beach. Charges for Wednesday morning's incident are pending.
