Police K9 receives protective vest

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Christmas came a little early for one K9 officer with the Newport News Police Department.

K9 Klause just received a protective ballistic vest!

Most of the police department's canines received their vests from Spike's K9 Fund earlier in the year, but Klause's handler had been out on medical leave at the time.

Spike's K9 Fund says the latest vest was sponsored by Andrew and Amanda Dunn. The couple ran, swam and biked 250 miles together over several races this summer to raise $2,800 for the vest.

Newport News Police say all of their patrol dogs now have their own ballistic vests.
