Police: Man accuses woman of stealing meds, assaults her

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- A Newport News man is facing charges after he allegedly got physical with a woman he suspected of stealing his medication.

Police say that early Monday morning, officers were called to a home in the 700 block of West Willow Point Place. When they arrived, a 50-year-old woman told them she had been assaulted by 41-year-old Patrick Harp Junior about 20 minutes earlier.

The victim said she knew Harp, who had accused her and her sister of stealing his pills. During the argument that followed, Harp allegedly attacked the victim, punching and choking her until she was unconscious. He then left the scene.

The victim was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

While investigating, the victim's sister called police to say Harp was sending her threatening text messages.

Harp was later located at his home, where he was arrested and charged with malicious wounding.
