Teen facing charges for bringing loaded, stolen gun to Newport News school

The .40 caliber firearm was found in the student's waistband.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- A 17-year-old Warwick High School student is facing several charges after security officers found a loaded gun in his waistband. 

Police say the student was searched after Newport News Public Schools Security received information on the gun just before noon on October 23.

Officer Brandon Maynard, the spokesperson for the Newport News Police Department, says the .40 caliber gun was listed as stolen. 

No one was injured. 

Maynard says the student will be charged with Possession of a Firearm on School Property and Underage Possession of a Firearm.
