Police: Teens in stolen car ran from officers

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Police say two teenagers are facing charges after fleeing from officers.

Newport News Police say they tried to pull over a car Thursday night near 33rd Street and Wickham Avenue. When the driver stopped, police say a 16-year old driver and an 18-year-old passenger got out of the car and ran.
The teens left the car in drive, which caused it to run into another parked vehicle.

Police ran the plates, and the vehicle turned out to be stolen from North Carolina.

When officers caught them, they say the older teen had a gun.

Now the 18-year-old, Marian Lewis, is charged with reckless handling of a gun and trying to remove the serial number from the weapon.

The younger teen is charged with receiving stolen property and driving without a license.
