Water restored, Princess Anne Rd expected to reopen on Monday

Norfolk officials confirm the road will be closed until at least Monday night.

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- A 24-inch water main break has closed down the westbound lane of Princess Anne Road from Sewells Point Road to Kilmer Lane. The good news for residents, is that the water has been restored.

The bad news? The road is expected to be closed until Monday.

A report came in at 9 p.m. Tuesday night.

A massive hole, about 40 feet by 35 feet was created in the middle of the street. According to authorities, the hole is about 12 feet deep.

The break has caused extensive damage, and crews say it will take a while to fix the road.

Drivers are being detoured around the main break.

Engineers were needed to evaluate the area around the sink hole before filling it in. The goal is to re-open the westbound lane Monday or Tuesday weather permitting.

The Public Works can't get the supplies needed over the weekend, so they have to pave first thing on Monday.

While water is restored for residents, some say the water is discolored.

The city tells 13News Now that if you are having that issue, make sure to run your faucet for 10 to 15 minutes.

If you still have problems, call the water quality lab at (757) 441-5678.
