Barricade situation ends peacefully in Norfolk

Man in custody after standoff

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- A man who barricaded himself inside a hone at the Breezy Point Apartments in Norfolk on Saturday is in police custody.

Police were called to the 8600 block of Glen Myrtle Avenue around 8:30 a.m. The caller told authorities her 24-year-old brother waved a gun at her and she fled the home. She also said that as she was running she heard a single gunshot.

Police arrived to find the brother, Darrius Wyche, outside with a gun. He went back inside the home as authorities got to the scene.

After a 12-hour standoff, negotiators were able to get Wyche to come out peacefully.

Wyche has been charged with reckless handling of a firearm, brandishing a firearm, and threatening bodily harm. He is in the custody of the Norfolk City Jail.
