NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Changes are on the way for Downtown Norfolk. On Tuesday, crews will begin to install new parking meters.
The new meters will accept credit cards, in addition to coins and smart cards. They'll go in place at Granby and Freemason Streets.
It will take about five days to install all the new meters. Each new meter costs approximately $400, which is being funded by the user-supported Parking Fund.
Vehicles parked in a space where an old meter is swapped for a new meter will receive two free hours of parking from the time the new meter is put in.
If you're a smart card user, the Division of Parking is offering a free exchange for a new smart card that is compatible with the new meters. Bring your current smart card to Parking’s Customer Service Center at 222 E. Main Street.
