Five Points Community Farm Market in Norfolk closing after 15 years

Five Points Community Farm Market will close its doors on Sunday, July 16.

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Five Points Community Farm Market will close its doors for good at 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 16.

The market's manager, Bev Sells, told 13News Now the current trend of people eating out more instead of buying farm goods for cooking was a factor in the shutdown.

Sells said the market was not getting the support and attention she hoped it would from the city.

Sells said in an online post that the market would be selling its remaining inventory to help pay its bills.

She noted that seeded and seedless watermelons, cantaloupes, and (non-GMO) sweet corn would be available to purchase. Additional items for sale include other produce, eggs, milk, pet food, bulk foods.

The year-round community market on Church Street has been in business for 15 years.

The hours for its final days are:

Thursday and Friday, July 13 and 14

11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday, July 15 and 16

10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
