Pedestrian struck by light rail train in downtown Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Officials say a pedestrian collided with a light rail train in Norfolk on Friday.

Tom Holden with Hampton Roads Transit tells 13News Now the accident happened at 12:40 p.m. in Civic Plaza.

The person was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Trains were temporarily held back at Norfolk State University as authorities investigated the incident. They have since resumed running.

Holden says this is the first accident between a train and a pedestrian since light rail came to the area.
