Police identify moped rider killed in hit-and-run crash; police looking for driver of vehicle

Police are looking for a blue S.U.V or minivan that drove off after the crash, and they think the front of it is pretty badly damaged

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Police have identified the moped rider that died Thursday afternoon after a collision involving a vehicle whose driver left the scene.

The crash happened around 12:30 p.m. on the 300 block of  East Princess Anne Road near Salter Street.

Medics took 53-year-old Ronald Townes to the hospital where he died.

His moped was traveling westbound on E. Princess Anne Road when it was struck. Police said the vehicle that hit Townes was a blue or dark blue Lexus SUV with severe front-end damage.

The SUV was last seen traveling northbound on Armistead Avenue near where the accident occurred.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact police at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
