Tesla donating 100 electric car charging stations to Norfolk

City Council is poised to accept 100 charging stations at Tuesday's council meeting

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Tesla has offered to donate 100 electric car charging stations to the city of Norfolk.

City Council is expected to accept the donation and installation of the charging station during Tuesday's meeting. Each installation costs about $550 per unit.

The stations would be placed in city-owned parking garages and would provide charging to owners of alternative fuel vehicles.

City officials believe this will help further brand Norfolk as a progressive city and a vibrant destination.

The city would  pay for the electricity which is about $1.50 per charge.

The garages that might receive the stations:

  • York Street
  • Main Street
  • The Main
  • MacAruthur South
  • Waterside
  • Town Point
  • Fountain Park
  • West Plume Lane
  • Boush Street
  • Bank Street
