Woman charged with fatal Portsmouth stabbing

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) -- Police said they have identified and arrested the person responsible for a stabbing death over the weekend in Portsmouth.

Emergency dispatchers received a call about the stabbing in the 1500 block of Maple Ave. just after 12 a.m. Saturday.

Officers arrived and found 40-year-old Darnell D. Phillips stabbed in his upper torso and bleeding. Medics took Phillips to the hospital, where he later died.

Detectives identified the suspect as 36-year-old Latisha S. Warren and obtained a warrant for her arrest.

Police said that when Warren learned of her wanted status, she turned herself in Monday night. Warren was booked on first degree murder charges, and is currently in custody at Portsmouth City Jail.
