Portsmouth preschool lockdown lifted

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) -- Mount Hermon Preschool in Portsmouth was placed on lockdown due to a shooting in the area on Friday.

Officers received a call at 1:45 p.m. and are on the scene of the 300 block of Mount Vernon Avenue.

The gunshot victim is an adult man. The extent of his injuries is not known at this time.

The lockdown at the preschool was lifted at about 3 p.m. Portsmouth Public Schools said all students and staff were safe, and normal dismissal was expected. The principal sent a robocall to parents during the lockdown to let them know. 

No word on if any suspects are in custody.
