Credit card skimmer found on gas pump rekindles warnings from police

SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Suffolk Police are putting out new warnings to residents in the area to watch out for credit card skimmers at gas stations.

These renewed warnings come after a skimming device was found on a diesel fuel pump at a 7-Eleven in the 1900 block of Holland Rd.

An officer was dispatched to that location on Dec. 1 after a contractor performing maintenance on the pumps found the skimmer.

The device could have been installed anywhere between Nov. 2 and Dec. 1.

If your credit card data has been compromised, please contact Suffolk Police.

Skimmers are illegal card readers that steal your credit card information and are usually hidden at ATMs and other locations.

Make sure to keep an eye out for external credit card readers and if you can't use your debit card as a credit card, make sure to shield your PIN number entry with your hand in case "tiny pinhole cameras" are installed.
