Man injured by stray bullet in rural area of Suffolk

SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) – A man was injured Sunday afternoon after police say he was struck by a stray bullet in a rural area of Suffolk.

According to a spokesperson, emergency dispatchers were notified at around 3:50 p.m. that an  adult male had been struck by a stray bullet while standing near the Big City Church, which is located in front of a wooded area and fields in the 4100 block of Pruden Boulevard/Route 460.

Police were told that gunshots were reported in the area earlier in the day, however, officials didn’t know if there ere hunters were in the area or whether unknown people were target shooting.

The man was initially treated on scene for what was described as a non-life threatening injury, and was then transported by ambulance to a local hospital for further treatment.

The spokesperson said an investigation is ongoing.
