Pickup truck hits boy on bike in Suffolk

SUFFOLK., Va. (WVEC) -- A child is recovering in the hospital after police say he was hit by a pickup truck while riding his bike.

Investigators say the boy, believed to be between the ages of 12 and 15, was riding his bike around 1 p.m. when he tried crossing the intersection of Cypress Chapel Road and Carolina Road.  A Ford F-150 struck the bicyclist.

The boy was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital suffering from non-life threatening injuries.  The driver of the truck remained at the scene.

The 3400 block of Carolina Road was closed immediately following the accident, and police are on scene directing traffic at this time.

The accident remains under investigation.
