Power outage cuts Suffolk after-school activities short

SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Parents are asked to pick up their kids from after school activities in Suffolk because of a power outage.

More than 5,000 customers in Suffolk are without power due to the outage.

The Suffolk Public Schools released a statement on Friday asking parents to come pick up their kids from after-school activities at Driver Elementary, Mack Ben Jr. Elementary, and John Yeates Middle.

The students will be supervised by staff until parents arrive.

According to a Dominion Energy spokeswoman, the cause of the outage is a result of equipment failure.
