VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Wondering where you can snag some free eclipse glasses?

Well, head to Beach Eye Care in Virginia Beach!

The office limits one pair per person.

They have four locations in the city where you can visit to grab a pair:

  • Hilltop Location (First Colonial Rd.)
    • 1201 First Colonial Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23454
  • Great Bridge Location (Cedar Rd.)
    • 1501 Cedar Road Suite 113/114, Chesapeake, VA 23322
  • Sandbridge Location (Red Mill Commons)
    • 2173 Upton Dr, Virginia Beach, VA 23454
  • Town Center Location (Holland Rd.)
    • 4388 Holland Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23452

The eye practice also wanted to offer some tips to keep your eyes safe and your vision as clear as possible when viewing the eclipse.

“The risk is damage to the retina and it is important to use proper protection to view the eclipse,” said Mark Lipton, OD, Director of Optometry at Beach Eye Care, who is hoping to get the message out about eye safety and the dangers of viewing this upcoming solar celestial event.

“Awareness is key,” cautioned Dr. Lipton. “Hampton Roads will experience a partial eclipse of the sun. The sun will dim, however the sun's intensity level will not.  You may feel able to look at the sun, but you must view with protection.  To protect your eyes properly and prevent permanent damage to the retina, use NASA Certified solar filtered glasses.

“I have seen the damage that an eclipse can cause on patients who have viewed the sun unprotected.”
