Craft brewers, others supporting young husband, father who had stroke

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- The craft brewing community and many other people are working to help a young father and business owner who had a stroke.

Aaron Holley, his wife, and his brother-in-law own Wasserhund Brewing Company in Hilltop. Holley was experiencing minor headaches last week and thought they were the result of a head cold.

He woke up October 1 disorientated and unable to speak in complete sentences (a condition known as Expressive Aphasia).

His wife, Christine, took him to the hospital. A CT and an MRI showed that 28-year-old Holley had a stroke.

Monday, an update on the GoFundMe page set up to help Holley and his family with medical costs said, in part:

Aaron is doing better today. He is still having expressive aphasia, but he is able to communicate a little better today and the sensation in his right arm and leg is increasing. His CT this morning showed slight improvement in his cerebral edema. They are also transitioning him from IV heparin to a oral medication. The doctors are also talking about sending him from the ICU to the Neuro unit. We are hoping and praying from there that he will be sent to the Inpatient Rehabilitation unit for a week where he would get intensive physical therapy and speech therapy care.

Continue to pray for a complete and speedy recovery.

Wasserhund Brewing Company will host A Benefit for the Brew Master! on  October 8 and will accept donations for the Holleys who are expecting their second child. The event will feature live music from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Fellow craft brewery Reaver Beach Brewing Company said on its Facebook page it would donate 100 percent of its Hoptopus pint sales in its taproom to the Holley Family from October 4 through October 9.

The post noted: "If you drink a Hoptopus at the brewery this week, know it's going to a family that needs help during a trying time."
