Homeowners sue over districting that led to dredging tax

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- A Virginia Beach neighborhood is suing the city over alleged gerrymandering.

The Chesopeian Colony area is one of the city's first special tax districts. It was created to pay for neighborhood dredging. Residents claim the city manipulated the boundaries to get enough support for a tax that pays for clearing nearby waterways.

They want the city to reimburse them for more than $225,000 in taxes they've paid and $350,000 for punitive damages.
