Learn about beach, water safety at free Oceanfront event

Your whole family is invited to learn about the art of being safe around water and the beach at a free event.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Your whole family is invited to learn about the art of being safe around water and the beach at a free event. 

The 'Be smART About Beach Safety' event is hosted by the Mary Helen Thomas Water Safety Council and is happening on Saturday, June 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Surf and Rescue Museum.

The museum is located at 24th Street and Atlantic. 

Experts will be on hand to teach adults and youth about sand safety, rip currents, water and sun safety.
