Man 'fishes' rent checks from Va. Beach drop boxes

Police in Virginia Beach are looking for the man who "fished" rent checks and money orders from apartment drop boxes.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Police in Virginia Beach are looking for the man who "fished" rent checks and money orders from apartment drop boxes.

Surveillance video caught the suspect in the act on July 6 at College Square Apartments. The video shows the unidentified man using a fishing technique to pull out the rent money for eight apartments.

Investigators say the same offense also happened a month earlier, on June 5, at Eastwyck Village Apartments.

The suspect got away with around $950.

Anyone with information is asked to call Virginia Beach Crime Solvers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or text VBTIP to 274637. Tipsters will remain anonymous, and could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 if their information leads to an arrest.
