Police officers injured after car runs red light in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Police officers were injured Thursday after a car ran a red light in Virginia Beach.

Police say a 911 call came in around 11:45 p.m. reporting a multi-vehicle crash involving a police vehicle at the intersection of South Independence Boulevard and Lynnhaven Parkway.

The accident happened when a car, driven by a juvenile, disregarded a red light. Officers inside the police vehicle were taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The driver was issued a summons for running the red light. 

Speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash, according to police.
